Virginia Caylor Obituary

Virginia “Gin” Dalton Caylor, 91, of Crandall, died Friday, Jan. 2, 2026, after a brief illness.

Virginia was born to Henry and Fannie Dalton on Feb. 7, 1934 in Crandall, the youngest in a family of all boys. She and her brothers grew up on the Calvard Plantation where her father was a blacksmith. Virginia loved her brothers dearly and remained close to them throughout her life.

Virginia spent her days caring for her family, cooking for them and tending to them when sick. She was a devout Christian, who enjoyed visiting with those she loved, reading, word finds and jigsaw puzzles. She was known for her chocolate pies, and for as long as she was physically able, she brought them to almost every church fellowship meal or potluck.

And though she helped raise her granddaughters, Virginia joked she would move away if there was ever a third.

She overcame many physical ailments and illnesses during the last several decades —and was a fighter to the end of her time.

She was married to Arnold Caylor for over 50 years until his death in 2011.

In addition to her parents and husband, she is also preceded in death by an infant brother, Eugene Dalton; brothers and sisters-in-law Herman and Inez Dalton, Fred and Ruth Dalton, Leon “Hunk” and Chessie Dalton, Evelyn Dalton, and Betty Dalton, who was also a very close lifelong friend; and her son-in-law Donnie Watson, whom she loved dearly.

She is survived by her daughter, Jennie Watson; granddaughters, Misty Watson and her husband Jim Miller, Michelle Watson and her partner Justin Sloan; great-granddaughters, Sophie Wheeler and Kira Allen; brother, Johnny Dalton; nephew, Terry Dalton; nieces Leticia Langley, Alicia Davis, and Connie Coker, as well as Deborah Yarborough, who helped care for Virginia in recent years; cousin and “sister by heart,” Faye Swilling; and many others.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to all the caregivers at Regency Park Health and Rehabilitation for loving her for the last four years.

Services will be Monday, Jan. 5, 2026 at 3 p.m. at the chapel of Jones Funeral Home in Chatsworth. The Rev. Tom Clarke will officiate.

The family will receive visitors from 10 a.m. until the funeral hour on Monday.
