Evelyn Hedden Obituary

Our dear, loving mother Evelyn Maxine Hedden passed peacefully from this life in her Rocky Face home surrounded by family, on December 16. She was 86.

Born in Titusville, PA, in 1936, Mom was the 2nd child of 10 born to Clyde and Marie Hasbrouck. After graduating Townville High School in 1954 she lived in Cleveland, OH for a few years. There she met our dad, Hilyard Hedden, of Murphy, NC. They married in 1958 and lived in Murphy during the early 1960s. Finally they settled in the Dalton area, buying a home in Rocky Face in 1968. They raised 6 children, all of us graduates of Northwest Whitfield High School.

After spending most of her adult life as a stay-at-home mom, our mother worked at Ridgewood Manor Nursing Home as a housekeeper for 6 years, then for 13 years at Shaw Plant 52 in the samples department. She retired in 2010 at age 73, and lived in the house she and Daddy bought over 50 years ago, until her death. 

Mom was predeceased by our dad, her husband of 55 years, Hilyard Hedden of the home, granddaughter Dorothea Hight of Dalton; son-in-law Anthony Wingate of Tunnel Hill; sister Bonnie Lyda of Henderson, NV; brother Jerry Hasbrouck of Titusville, PA; and parents Clyde and Marie Hasbrouck of Titusville, PA.

Survivors include her loving children: David (Kay)  Hedden of Rocky Face, Tim Hedden of Middletown, NY, Wanda Wingate of Tunnel Hill, Renee (Joseph) Archer of Yukon, OK, Sabrina (Steve) Parson of Dalton, and Melissa (Cecilio) Soto of Dalton; grandchildren Jared (Adrienne) Hedden of Erie CO, Casey Mingle of Dalton, Haley (Aaron) Jones of Kennesaw, GA, Nathan Meyer of Yukon OK, Abbey Cochran of Chattanooga, TN, Matthew Wingate of Tunnel Hill, Conner Parson of Dalton, Devon Parson of Dalton, Kyle Soto of Dalton, and Violet Archer of Yukon, OK; great-grandchildren Jaidan Hight, Jacob Hight, and Marley Mingle of Tunnel Hill, Weston and Addison Hedden of Erie, CO, and Sylas and Waylon Jones of Kennesaw, GA; siblings Caroline Thomas, Ed Hasbrouck, Fred Hasbrouck, Roger Hasbrouck, Kathy Ritchie, Kay Hasbrouck, Karen Crawford; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mom also leaves behind her good friend and neighbor Charlie Burns, who was a constant friend to her and the family in her final years.

Mom was at peace with her passing, and said she believed in God, that he has a plan. She knew she belonged to God, and that her spirit would return to God. She heeded the Bible’s command to “Love your neighbor as yourself,” and helped people such as the handicapped or the elderly, who couldn’t care for themselves.

She was the thread that held the family together. Nothing brought her greater love and happiness than being a mom and spending time with her kids. She was always there for us no matter whether she agreed with our choices. She listened to what we said and felt, and taught by example more than her words. By that example, she taught us to take care of our families and to care for people other than ourselves. She meant so much to so many people. That is her legacy.

Funeral services to celebrate the life of Evelyn Maxine Hedden will be 3:00 pm Wednesday, December 21, 2022 from the Chapel of Jones Funeral Home of Tunnel Hill with Pastor David Jones officiating. Burial will be in Dunagan Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm Wednesday, December 21, 2022.
